Who is at Risk for Mold Contamination?
If a home has had water damage, particularly where the water has sat undetected for any period of time, mold growth is a possibility. Basements and crawlspaces are especially susceptible to this problem because of the number of pipes and water-related appliances that are often located there. During a typical home inspection, always verify that the inspector has looked for mold everywhere in the home, and order mold testing if you smell or see visible signs of its presence.
Our Mold Inspection Process
Mold inspections are not complicated. They involve three steps, and we follow the standards of practice for mold inspections as established by InterNACHI.
- We take an outside air sample to establish a baseline reading of the mold count as a means of comparison.
- We take an indoor air sample of the area in question.
- We overnight the samples to Pro Labs in Florida.
It takes the lab three days to run the test. They email us the results, and we immediately forward the email to the client. It’s easy to interpret the results. If the indoor mold reading is higher that the outdoor reading, then there is a problem inside the house.
